Judy D. Godwin
03 July, 2006 by Ed Ediger
Judy Godwin, age 57, of McPherson, KS , passed away Sunday, July 2nd, 2006 at her residence in McPherson, Kansas, following a lengthy illness.
The world was blessed on March 25th, 1949 when Judy was born. She was the first daughter of Betty and Fred Hill. Her siblings include Joanne, Jeannie, and Jon.
After graduating from McPherson High School in 1967, she received a BA in English from McPherson College in 1971.
Judy married Allen Brown in 1969 and had two sons, Matt and Mike. Her second marriage was to Jim Godwin in 1982 and they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2006, a year early.
As a long time resident of McPherson, she worked at Vanguard Plastics, the McPherson Sentinel and most recently as Administrative Assistant at the McPherson Fire Department. She fondly referred to all the fire fighters as her “Fire Dudes” and they became her surrogate family.
Judy had many hobbies and interests that include: gardening, fishing, camping, playing boncos, home decorating, going on Sister’s Retreats and Girls’ Trips, watching sports, especially Matt and Mike playing football, wrestling, etc. She also enjoyed time with her 13 grand kids, here in McPherson and Alabama. Jim and Judy would take Sunday drives through the country, enjoying the colors and animals of the season. She was an avid collector of Christmas ornaments, wind chimes, angels and friends.
In February 2004, Judy was diagnosed with breast cancer and fought with all her might for two years. As we say good bye to her today, we know she never gave up the fight for life. She is probably already enjoying fishing with Grandma and Grandpa Saylor and Grandma Lone who have paved a path for her heavenly travel.
We pray she will be remembered as a fighter, a kindred spirit, a lover of life, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend and a gift from God.
Judy died on Sunday, July 2, 2006 at her home in McPherson, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her father. She was fifty-seven years old.
