Ronald D. Carlson

17 August, 2006 by troy glidden

Mr. Ronald D. Carlson, age 55, of McPherson, Kansas passed away Thursday, August 17th, 2006 suddenly at his residence.

Ronald D Carlson, the son of Edwin E. and Ferne O. (Hoffman) Carlson, was born May 14, 1951 at Great Bend, Kansas. He was one of eight children born to this union: Ernest Richard, John Edwin, Harold Lee, Bertha “Bertie” Louise, Charles “Chuck” Albert, twins Ronald Dean and Donald Gean, and Lawrence Wayne. Ron attended the Ellinwood grade schools and graduated from Ellinwood High School, Ellinwood, Kansas in 1969. Following graduation, Ron attended a computer school in Kansas City.

On May 19, 1973 Ron was united in marriage to Karen Elaine Werner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Chase, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Emporia, Kansas where Karen was attending Emporia State Teachers College. Following graduation in 1974, the couple moved to McPherson, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons, Heath Daniel and Brice Edward. Through the years Ron worked as an electrician for Kit Manufacturing; an extruder operator for CertainTeed; Columbia Windows and Doors of Lindsborg; and Central Plastics. At the time of his death he was working for Wal-Mart as a night stockman. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of McPherson and participated on a local bowling league.

Ronald was a Christian, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His wise counsel, firm but fair guidance, and gracious smile will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was very proud of his children and always wanted the best for them. He was especially fond of his granddaughter and he thought she was just heavenly. Ron enjoyed working with his hands and had a real talent for fixing and making clocks. Ron enjoyed going to car shows in his 1936 International pickup. Just a month ago he had a peaceful relaxing vacation on the Mississippi Queen Steamboat. He flew a kite off the upper deck over the paddlewheel, made more friends and got to personally know Harold of the Inkspots, have his picture taken with the group and given an autographed picture. He also enjoyed telling stories and sharing his experiences with anyone who would listen. Ron believed and was raised to work hard so that he could provide for his family.

On Thursday, August 17, 2006 after arriving home from work, Ron died suddenly. He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin and a brother, Ernest Richard Carlson.

Surviving members of his family include his loving and devoted wife of over thirty-three years, Karen Carlson, of the home, McPherson; his sons, Heath Carlson and his wife Trena, of Salina, Kansas and Brice Carlson and his wife Celestial, of Indianapolis, Indiana; his granddaughter, Miriam Carlson, of Indianapolis, Indiana; his mother, Ferne O.
