Mr. Roy Henry Horn, 93, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away to his heavenly home at 7:13 a.m., Monday, December 3rd, 2007 while in the company of family members at Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson, Kansas.
Roy Henry Horn, the son of John Russell and Mable (Buehre) Horn, was born February 18, 1914 on his parents farm south of McPherson, Kansas. He was one of five children, three sons and two daughters: Ray, Richard, Ruth, Roy, and Betty. Growing up, Roy learned early on that he loved farming and he helped his siblings with all the chores. Roy attended and graduated from the Victory Country School. He then attended and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas.
Roy was united in marriage to Melois Fern Koehn on January 18, 1959 at West Zion Mennonite Church, Moundridge, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together on his parents farm South of McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, one daughter and one son: Pamela and Alan. The family joined the First Baptist Church in McPherson and were faithful members. They were members of the O.U.R. Sunday School Class and Roy had served as President a couple times. They later joined the Y.E.S. Sunday School class when the O.U.R. class disbanded. Roy enjoyed working on the farm and being out-of-doors. He and Fern worked part-time for the Santa Fe country school South of McPherson as custodians. Roy really enjoyed the kids at the school. Roy was a member of the Elk’s Lodge B.P.O.E. #502, McPherson and Farm Bureau. Roy and Fern have been volunteering for many years at the McPherson County Food Bank.
Roy was a faithful Christian, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His wise counsel, gentle guidance, gracious smile, and happy go lucky nature will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Roy was very proud of his children and always wanted the best for them. He was especially fond of his grandchildren always looking forward to their visits and times they would share together. Roy always looked forward to Sunday dinners with all the family. He was always ready to eat Fern’s pies and if he had his way, that’s all he would eat. Roy never met a stranger and was a very giving person. Roy and Fern enjoyed traveling and going on trips.
Following a sudden illness, Mr. Roy H. Horn, 93, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away to his heavenly home at 7:13 a.m., on Monday, December 3rd, 2007 while in the company of family members at the Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson, Kansas. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Roy's family. I knew Roy for many years and he was a very good person. My brother, Delbert Storm, married his sister, Betty, and my special love and caring goes out to her.
