V. C. "Gene" Culver

Gene Culver, 82, of McPherson, Kansas on Monday, January 28, 2008 at Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson, Kansas.
He was born in Wayne, Kansas on May 28, 1925, the son of the late Bryan and Blanche (Blazek) Culver.
Gene attended and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas and Tulsa University, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He attended First Congregational United Church of Christ McPherson, Kansas.
He served in the US Navy and US Army during World War II.
He was a Entrepreneur Owning and operating Culver's Liquor Store from 1949 until 1980, Culver's Sporting Goods from 1965 until 1975, Culver's Fish Farm from 1965 until the present. Culver-Grounds Oil Properties from 1975 until 2000. He had many other investments and ventures.
Gene was a member of American Legion Post No. 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2715, and Masonic Lodge No. 72, all of McPherson, Kansas; ISIS Temple, Salina, Kansas.
Gene was united in marriage to Loretta M. Nelson on August 17, 1947. She died on December 14, 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Culver-Burke of McPherson, Kansas; two sons, Terry Culver and Brent Culver both of McPherson, Kansas; five grandchildren, Tessa, Evan, Bryan, and Christopher Culver, and Tyler Burke; and one great-grandchild, McKenzie Culver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Loretta, brother Darwin, and grandson, Blake.
Friends are invited to call Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.
The funeral service will be at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, McPherson, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2008 with Rev. Dr. Ken Stephens officiating.
The final resting place will be in McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas with veterans burial rites presented by American Legion Post No. 24 and Veterans of foreign Wars Post No. 2715.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Congregational Church, McPherson, Kansas.
