Dennis Lynn Frans

22 September, 2012 by Ed Ediger

Dennis Lynn Frans, 61, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on Friday, September 21st, 2012 at 10:45 p.m., while in the company of family members at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas.

Dennis Lynn Frans was born in McPherson, Kansas on March 7, 1951, and a son of the late Lillian Marie (Hapgood) and Ray Cecil Frans. He was one of three children born to this union, Cheri, Dale, and Dennis.

Dennis attended the McPherson grade schools and graduated from McPherson High School in 1969.

Dennis L. Frans was united in marriage to Janet L. Goering on August 19, 1973 in McPherson, Kansas. They were blessed with the birth of three children, Heather, Joshua and Joseph.

He was a former member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in McPherson, Kansas.

Dennis was a founder and original member of the King Midas and the Muflers. He began playing both drums and guitar at an early age, however; influenced by the sound of early Memphis soul music and Jimmy Smith's organ, he found his calling in keyboards and studied with the famous keyboardist Mike Finnigan. Continuing as a current member of the King Midas Band as the keyboardist and a vocalist, he was still performing and touring with other groups throughout Kansas as well. It all started in 1965 and he has continuously been rocking the mid-west for forty-seven years. In 2006, King Midas and the Muflers were inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame, and hailed as Kansas' longest performing Rock and Roll Band.

Dennis was a humble and caring man with an uncanny sense of humor. He was an avid gardener with a love and appreciation of nature. Hiking in the Rocky Mountains with his family and walking the fields and collecting arrowheads and artifacts were among his favorite pastimes. He was a gentle spirit who enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, cooking, and traveling with family. Dennis had a love and un-paralleled connection with his children and supported them through their BMX, School, and Musical endeavors without hesitation. He worked as the Head Custodian at Soderstrom Elementary School in Lindsborg, Kansas for the last twenty-five years. Dennis loved all of his children and co-workers at the USD 400 School District, and looked forward to "his" cinnamon roll in the morning.

Dennis Lynn Frans, 61, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on Friday, September 21st, 2012 at 10:45 p.m., while in the company of family members at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Janet of McPherson, Kansas; two sons Joshua R. Frans, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Joseph T. Frans, of Austin, Texas; a sister, Cheri Wray, of McPherson, Kansas; a brother, Dale Frans, of Topeka, Kansas; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

His parents, Ray and Lillian Frans, and his daughter, Heather Frans, preceded Dennis in death.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 27th, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family present form 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas.

The funeral service will be conducted by Roger Cooper at the New Hope Evangelical Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28th, 2012. "In This Very Room" will be sung by Cheri Wray and Shaelah White, accompanied by Joyce Hall. “Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major; Praeludium” J.S. Bach will be presented by Josh Frans. “Go Rest High on the Mountain” by Vince Gill, performed by Jake Livgren, Jessica Livegren, Roxanne Degraw. "Waiting On The World To Change" by John Mayer & "Great Gig In The Sky" by Pink Floyd will be presented by Josh Frans, Dennis Craven, Roxanne Degraw, Chris Livgren, Jake Livgren, Jessica Livgren, and Kenny Becker. "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe, performed by Roger Cooper. "Dream Weaver" by Gary Wright will be played.

The final resting place will be in the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.

Everyone is invited to join the family for a time of refreshments, provided by friends from Soderstrom Elementary School, and fellowship at the New Hope Evangelical Church following the services at the cemetery.

Janet and boys,
Wow! What a lovely celebration and tribute for Dennis' life. I don't know who could have listened to the message and the music of the service on Friday, and not been touched. Roger, Josh, Cheri & her grandaughter, and all of the musicians did a fabulous job. It was good to see a bunch of the "old gang". His co-workers did such a nice job on the fellowship following the service. Dennis was truely loved. He and his beautiful music will be greatly missed. May God keep you close as you go through the days to come. I'm still praying for all of you. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives for so many years.
Love you much,
Louie :0)

To Janet, Josh,Joseph & the Frans Family I send by deepest sympathy for Dennis' passing. Please know that he hasn't left us but just 'Lifted Higher'in our thoughts. Dennis meant so much to me even though I wasn't close around since moving to Indiana, however I was with him and the band on many occasions within my Heart. He had such a 'God Given Talent' for music and he did the very most with it. My heart goes out to each of you in this difficult time and I send my Love to all. An original 'Midas 8', Willie

Janet, I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Dennis. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the boys. I had the privilege of working with Dennis while principal at Soderstrom several years ago. He was such a wonderful man who cared deeply for his family (not only his personal family but also school family). While at Soderstron, he and I would visit most mornings before school. I loved hearing stories about your children, family and his music. May God comfort you during this difficult time. Dennis will be missed by many!!
