Margaret Yvonne "Peg" Applebee, 84, of Concordia, Kansas, passed away at 5:15 pm, Tuesday, July 9, in the loving company of her family, at Mount Joseph's Senior Village.
Peg Applebee, daughter of Ernest and Myrtle Folsom, was born in Randall, KS on December 22, 1928. One of two children, she was the big sister to her younger brother Jack. She attended, and graduated with Valedictorian honors, from Randall Rural High School in Randall, KS. She also attended Kansas State University for summer school classes to pursue her teaching certificate.
Peg married Bob Applebee on March 2, 1947 in Beloit, KS. The young couple established their first home together in Washington, KS prior to moving to Frankfort, KS where their first son, Allen, was born. They then moved to Ellsworth, KS and on to Beloit, KS where they were blessed with their second son, Gary. Oberlin, KS was their next home prior to moving to McPherson in 1950. While in McPherson they were blessed with two more sons, Craig and Kent, and a daughter Angela who would complete their family in 1964.
Peg took enormous pride in providing for her family. She was a passionate and accomplished seamstress, pianist, loved music, singing and dancing, and doing all the things mothers do for their children and family. Pegs nurturing heart led her to pursue a career working with children. Following her time as a teacher, she ran a daycare in her home for 16 years assisting working parents with their families and raising many children who today still call her mom. She later took a position running the front office of Dr. Weir Pierson, and her last position was with Raleigh's Drug Store. Peg was an active and dedicated member of the Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Ladies of the Elks, and Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, all in McPherson.
Peg was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, caretaker, and devoted friend. Her counsel, sought by many, was delivered with wisdom and honesty. Her gracious smile, continual optimism and genuine love of life was balanced with a strong will and conviction of personal values that never waivered. She strived to leave a positive influence on everyone she met and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Peg moved to Concordia, KS to be closer to family and was always extremely appreciative of the visits, phone calls, and cards she would get from her friends back in McPherson. She coveted the numerous relationships and associations she established throughout her lifetime and felt truly privileged to have so many dear friends.
Peg was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Myrtle Folsom, her brother Jack Folsom, and her loving husband, Bob.
Surviving family members include her children, Allen Applebee and wife Darlene, of Lady Lake, FL, Gary Applebee and wife Rosemary, of Meridian, MS, Craig Applebee, of Wichita, KS, Kent Applebee and wife Sharon, of Concordia, KS, and Angela Applebee Drew and husband Tom, of Gretna, NE; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, a long line of loving relatives and a tremendous community of friends.
Please join the family for her celebration of life at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the First Christian Church, 101 S. Walnut Street in McPherson, Kansas with Peg's nephew, the Reverend Fred Anderson officiating.
A private family burial will take place Friday, July 26 at the McPherson Cemetery in McPherson, KS.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of McPherson or Meadowlark Hospice of Clay Center and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.

To all of Peg's family... What a beautiful tribute to your Mother. She would be so tickled,
that you guys gave her such a nice Memorial service. She was quite a lady. I will always remember her from when we all went to church at the 'big' Christian church. She had such a great heart and smile. I know you will miss her so much, as will others. May God bless & comfort your hearts with the many wonderful memories that were so evident in the sharing on Sat.
Love and Prayers,

Peg was a dear friend for a number of years. A second mother to my 3 children during their elementary years. She was loving, dependable, fun and trustworthy. She would come see me when she was in the nursing home in her motor chair, we were neighbors. God Bless your family.avdfe

To Peg's family, I am sorry to hear of your moms death. I have such fond memories of her. I loved going to visit mom at the doctors office because I knew I'd get to see Peg too. What a dear! Mom always regretted that she didn't keep in better touch when your mom moved away but she always spoke of her so fondly. She loved your mom.. She is missed. With love, Cecilia
