Mr. Robert L Nelson, of McPherson,Kansas passed away at 9:52 AM, Saturday, December 3rd, 2005 while in the company of family members at his home, McPherson, Kansas.
Robert Lee “Bob” Nelson, the son of Ely and May (Tucker) Nelson, was born April 15, 1945 at Little River, Kansas. He was one of nine children born to this union, eight sons and one daughter: Calvin, George, John, Kenney, Donald, Charles, Richard, Robert, and Saundra. Bob attended the Geneseo elementary schools and Geneseo High School, Geneseo, Kansas.
On February 13, 1965 Bob was united in marriage to Dorothy Hammel, at Glendale, California. The young couple established their first home together in Burbank, California. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, a son and a daughter: Frank and Tammy. In 1970 the family moved to McPherson, Kansas from Burbank, California. Bob began working for the Certain-Teed Corporation as a maintenance worker. Though the years Bob worked as a Operator A., and Labor Set up until his health would not permit him to work anymore. During this time, Bob also owned and operated Scope Maintenance along with his wife and partner. For a few years, Bob and Dorothy opened and operated the first pet store in town, Nelson’s Pet Store.
Bob was a Christian, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His gracious smile and great sense of humor will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was very proud of his children and always wanted the best for them. Bob was especially fond of his grandchildren, and always looked forward to the times they would share together. Bob enjoyed the out-of-doors and spent many hours fishing with his family and friends.
Robert Lee Nelson, age 60, of McPherson, Kansas entered eternal rest at 9:52 AM, Saturday, December 3rd, 2005 while in the company of family members at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Reba Nelson; a nephews, Philip Rinehart and Harold Dean Nelson; and a niece, Edie Gustus.
Surviving members of his family include his loving and devoted wife of over forty-years, Dorothy Nelson, of the home, McPherson, Kansas; his son, Frank Nelson and his wife Chrissy, of McPherson, Kansas; his daughter, Tammy Shadday and her husband Loren, of McPherson, Kansas; his brothers, Calvin Tucker and his wife Hellen, of Lyons, Kansas, George Nelson of Lyons, Kansas, John Nelson and his wife Laura, of Lyons, Kansas, Kenney Nelson and his wife Elaine, of McPherson, Kansas, Donald Nelson and his wife Jean, of Marquette, Kansas, Charles Nelson, of Sun Valley,California, and Richard Nelson, of Springfield, Missouri; his sister, Saundra Wingert and her husband Jerry, of Hutchinson, Kansas; six grandchildren: Ashley Nelson, Justine Nelson, Jessica Shadday, Brianna Shadday, Robert Nelson, and Frank Nelson, Jr.; other relatives and many friends.
The memorial service will be conducted by Reverend Shawn Replogle at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Glidden—Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas. Special music selected by the grandchildren.
