Clarence R. Buryanek, age 97, of McPherson, KS, died Friday, August 18, 2006 at Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson, Kansas. Clarence R. Buryanek was born the son of Joseph and Carrie S. (Kubin) Buryanek on November 26, 1908 in rural McPherson County, Kansas. He was one of two sons, George and Clarence born to this union. Clarence attended the Center View country school near his home. After completing his formal education, Clarence began his lifelong occupation as a farmer.On December 5, 1937, Clarence was united in marriage to Ruth Alberta Prather at Mound City, Missouri. They established their first home together on the farm near McPherson, Kansas. They were blessed with the birth of a daughter, Jo. After moving into McPherson from the farm, Clarence worked as a custodian at Lincoln Elementary School and as a desk attendant at the YMCA. Clarence and his family were deeply saddened by Ruth’s death on October 23, 1999.Clarence was a kind, loving and gentle husband, father, grandfather and friend. He rarely, if ever, complained about the difficulties in his life and never spoke poorly of anyone. He and Ruth liked to travel and made many trips to California to visit Jo and her family. They traveled in eleven states, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Colorado, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Nevada. When Clarence and Ruth could no longer travel to California, they made sure that their family was able to visit them in McPherson on a yearly basis.Clarence was a faithful member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren for many years. He was also an active member of the Noon Kiwanis Club in McPherson.Clarence died and entered into eternal rest at the Cedars Health Care Center on Friday, August 18, 2006. He had attained the age of ninety-seven years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, his brother, George, and his son-in-law, Robert Schmidt, Sr..Surviving members of his family include his daughter, Jo Schmidt, his grandson, Robert Schmidt, Jr., his granddaughter, Lisa Jo Schmidt, all of Reedley, California; other relatives and friends.Reverend Chris Whitacre will conduct the funeral service at eleven a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 from the Glidden-Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas. Bud Taylor will sing “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Amazing Grace.” Joyce Hall will be the organist.Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Noon Kiwanis Club or the Cedars Health Care Center.
