Dennis Neil Pope

January 18, 1946 - January 15, 2021

Dennis Neil Pope, 74, of Gypsum, Kansas, passed away at 8:20 p.m., Friday, January 15th, 2021 peacefully at Hospice House. Dennis was born in McPherson, Kansas on January 18, 1946, a son of Earl Jonathan and Fay June (Crumpacker) Pope. Dennis attended Roxbury grade school and graduated from Roxbury High School, Roxbury, Kansas in 1964. Dennis served in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge in 1971. Dennis enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, heavy machinery, motocross racing, loved harvest and spending time with friends and family. Dennis Neil Pope was united in marriage to Roberta May "Bobbie" Estes on in June 8, 1985 in Riggins Idaho. The young couple established their first home together in Riggins, Idaho. He is survived by his son, Paul Pope and his wife Christine, of Sarasota, Florida; his siblings, Vera Rush, of Langley, Kansas, Verna Becker, of Langley, Kansas, Duane Pope, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Ello Stephney and her husband Jim, of Grants, New Mexico, Gregg Pope and his wife Laura, of Gypsum, Kansas, Eric Pope, of Pottsboro, Texas; stepdaughter, Teresa Hinsrich and her husband David, of Riggins, Idaho and stepson, Gerry Hamilton, of Battle Mountain, Nevada. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Gerald and his wife Bobbie. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the Canton Township Cemetery, Canton, Kansas, with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 24 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715. Memorials are to Wounded Warriors Fund and they can be sent to Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid St., McPherson, Kansas 67460.
