M. Fern Horn, 101, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:15 pm, Friday, March 25th, 2022 at The Cedars House 805. Fern was born at her parents home in McPherson, Kansas, on January 13, 1921, a daughter of Henry H. Jr. and Anna (Rudiger) Koehn. Fern attended a country school near Lone Tree Mennonite Church rural McPherson. Melois Fern Koehn was united in marriage to Roy Henry Horn on January 18, 1959 at West Zion Mennonite Church, Moundridge, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together on Roy's parents farm South of McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, a daughter and a son, Pamela and Alan. Roy died on December 3, 2007. Fern was a member of the First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas. She and Roy were members of the O.U.R. Sunday School Class and later the Y.E.S. Sunday School Class. Fern was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Fern and Roy worked part-time for the Santa Fe Country School South of McPherson as custodians. Fern worked for Heidebrecht Meats as a meat processor, and retired from Dillions Bakery as a Baker. Fern was known for her cooking and baking skills and the family always looked forward to her Sunday dinners with all the family, especially her pies! If Roy had his way that's all he would eat. She also enjoyed all the traveling and trips they took together. Fern and Roy also volunteered in the community for the McPherson County Food Bank for many years. She is survived by her children, Pamela R. Samuels and husband Allan, of McPherson, Kansas and Alan K. Horn and wife Rebecca, of McPherson, Kansas; her five grandchildren, David Samuels, Stephanie Trevett and life partner Chris, Dustin Horn and wife Alli, Mariah Gawanda and husband Michael, and Emma Horn; her four great-grandchildren, Tanner, Ryan, Paisley, and Colter; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Fern was preceded in death by her parents Henry Jr. and Anna Koehn; her husband Roy Horn; and brother Vernard Koehn. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Wednesday, March 30th 2022 at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas. A graveside service will be held 10:00 on Thursday, March 31st 2022 at McPherson Cemetery in McPherson, Kansas with Reverend John Pattison officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in memory of Fern and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
