James L. 'Jim' Stucky, 74, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 8:00 a.m., Sunday, September 8th, at his home. James L. Stucky, the son of Carl T. and Martha Lorene (Goering) Stucky, was born March 15, 1939 at McPherson, KS. He was the second of four children: Wanieta, Jim, Ben, and Diane. Early in life Jim learned the values of work, play, family solidarity, and love of God. Upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ he was baptized and joined the Eden Mennonite Church. In 1962 he joined and became an active member of the First Mennonite Church of McPherson. His formal education began when Jim attended the two Santa Fe country schools. He graduated from MHS in 1957. It was during these years that Jim began a lifetime love of all sports, especially football. Athletics and studies continued at Bethel College 1957-1961. At Bethel he also met the girl of his dreams. Jim and Frances A. Penner were united in marriage on July 3, 1960 at the First Mennonite Church near Beatrice, NE. The young couple established their farm home south of McPherson. This union was blessed with three children: Sheryl, Donna, and Matt. Farming, including dairying, and teaching kept Jim very busy. He taught school for 20 years. They include Sunny Hill near Canton, Hillcrest near Inman, Galva Middle School, Geneseo HS, and McPherson Middle School. Coaching football and American Legion Baseball added another exciting dimension. Jim was an auctioneer and enjoyed auctioneering at the MCC Sale in Ritzville, WA for 34 years. He was a member of Toastmasters, Writers Guild (story to be published in Oct.), and a trustee of King City Township. Jim enjoyed life! He had a ready smile and warm hug for everyone he met! Often this was accompanied with a joke from his extensive stockpile of stories. He loved the earth and farmed for many years. His enjoyment of children showed in his family, schools, and church. His wise counsel, firm guidance, sense of humor and gracious smile will be greatly missed. He had a passion for fishing and he would never turn down the opportunity to challenge someone in a game. James L. Stucky, 74, passed on to new life on Sept. 8, 2013.
