Joy Christine Collins, 63, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at on Tuesday, January 6th 2015 unexpectedly, at her home. Joy Christine Collins, the daughter of Dean D. and Clara June (Regier) Wiederstein, was born December 22, 1951 at McPherson, Kansas. She was one of six children born to this union, five daughters and one son: Cindy, Deanna, Jim, Joy, Jill, and Dinah. The family moved to Galva, Kansas, and transferred their church membership from the First Christian Church, McPherson to the Galva Christian Church, where Joy was baptized. Joy attended the Galva Grade School and graduated from Galva High School, Galva, Kansas. She then attended Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas. Joy was blessed with the birth of two children, Dinah and Christopher (Buddy). Being a single parent and homemaker, she worked hard to make sure her children had what they needed and took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Through the years, Joy worked for Vanguard Plastics, The Canton Pilot, and Kaps Convenience Store, to name a few – and retired early due to health issues. Joy was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and dear friend. She was very proud of her children and always wanted the best for them. She led by example, teaching her children kindness and respect for others, and always stressed the importance of financial responsibility. Dinah’s 2009 marriage to Zach brought Joy two grandchildren - a granddaughter Taylor and a grandson Tyler. She was especially fond of them and looked forward to their visits and times they would share together when they were young, and enjoyed hearing updates about them throughout their teenage years. Joy was a talented astrologer and eloquent writer, and enjoyed cross stitch embroidery and gardening. She was a big fan of science fiction and horror movies, British culture and Andy Warhol. She was an avid reader who spent many hours at the McPherson Public Library and devoured countless biographies. Joy also had a very big heart for animals, especially cats.
