Lori Ann Swanson

October 17, 1957 - April 5, 2022

Lori Ann Swanson was born in McPherson, KS, on October 17, 1957, to Carl and Doris (Spradlin) Swanson. She had the distinction of being the first girl born on the Swanson side of the family after a span of 73 years, the previous girl being her great-aunt Ida Swanson, born in 1884. Lori attended Santa Fe Elementary School, located south of McPherson, McPherson Junior High, and McPherson High School, graduating in 1975. She was raised on the family farm. In the summer between her high school `graduation and her college entrance, Lori and her best friend spent the summer driving tractors on the farm to help Carl. She then attended and graduated from Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas, earning an Associate’s degree in X-ray Technology. Lori worked as an X-ray technician at Medicine Lodge Hospital, Medicine Lodge, KS; Moberly Hospital in Moberly, MO; Hertzler Clinic, Halstead, KS, and Hutchinson Clinic, Hutchinson, KS. In January, 1985, during her time in Medicine Lodge, she was blessed with the birth of her son Adam Christopher. Lori was a good Momma for Adam and always wanted the very best for him. The two of them had lots of fun going to garage sales and casinos together. Lori enjoyed family gatherings, over the years watching her nieces and great-nephews grow up. She was a very supportive fan who attended many of her niece’s sports events. She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, always eagerly looking forward to football season! She (and many others in the family) loved fried chicken, so many family gatherings were held at Brookville Hotel - in Brookville or Abilene – and at Carriage Crossing in Yoder, KS. She was always in search of the best fried chicken. Pie, especially chocolate or rhubarb, were among her favorite foods. Lori tenderly loved and cared for animals - her dog Lucky, her precious kitties, and any stray that needed care and nourishment. Not one who enjoyed the Kansas heat, she loved to get away whenever she could to the mountains of Colorado – that beautiful scenery and the crisp, light mountain air. In about 2009 or 2010, Lori fought a courageous battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. After her father Carl died in 2011 and her mother Doris moved into McPherson, Lori and Adam came back from Burrton to live on the farm where Lori had been raised. She spent many hours mowing the grounds on the farm. Lori was always a good friend, but after she moved back to McPherson, she endeared herself to many by offering to take elderly patients to their Dr. appointments, whether in McPherson or out of town, and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was an especially loving and thoughtful companion and care-giver for her mother Doris after her father Carl passed away. Baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Lori wasn’t so much about the formality of religion as she was about being kind and compassionate, thoughtful and loving. We, her family, thank God for the gift of her life and being able to share time with her here on earth. Lori passed away suddenly at her home on April 5, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father Carl, and her grandparents George and Edith Spradlin, and Ernest and Ethel Swanson. She is survived by her son Adam Swanson, of McPherson, KS; her mother Doris Swanson, of McPherson, KS; her brother Dale Swanson and wife Kris, of McPherson, KS; her nieces Karin and husband Jay Krehbiel, of McPherson, KS, and Leslie and husband Justin Lyman, of Overland Park, KS; her great-nephews Jacob Krehbiel and wife Kat, of Salina, KS, and Dylan Krehbiel, of McPherson, KS; her great-great-nephew Derek Krehbiel, other relatives and many friends. A Celebration of Life Come and Go will be held from 2 pm to 4pm on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Glidden-Ediger Chapel McPherson, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of McPherson or McPherson County Humane Society in memory of Lori and can be mailed to Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid; McPherson, Kansas 67460
