Mary Lou Petersen

February 1, 1938 - August 25, 2021

Mary Lou Petersen, 83, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 25th, 2021 while in the company of family members, at Cedars House. Mary was born on her parents farm rural in Onaga, Kansas on February 1, 1938, a daughter of Simon Eugene and Ellen Margaret (Savago) Bonjour. Mary attended the Onaga Elementary Schools and graduated from Centralia High School, Centralia, Kansas in 1956. Mary was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked at the Warren Hotel, McPherson Sentinel, Dillons Floral and Pharmacy, was a crossing guard for the city of McPherson, and for CK Pharmacy. Mary was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 Auxiliary and the Wendy's Coffee Club. Mary enjoyed kids and did a lot of childcare when she was younger, playing bingo, bowling, listening to music, gardening, playing the lottery and going to the casino. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her the greatest joy. Mary Lou Bonjour was united in marriage to Willard Duane Koehn in 1957. The young couple established their first home together in Moundridge, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of four sons, Mark, Marty, Monty, and Mike. Mary Lou Bonjour Koehn was united in marriage to William David "Bill" Petersen on July 15, 1965 at Evans, Oklahoma. The couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter Sandy. Bill passed away on April 10, 2010. She is survived by her children, Mark D. Koehn, of McPherson, Kansas, Monty D. Koehn and his wife Lori, of McPherson, Kansas, Mike D. Koehn and his wife Lisa, of McPherson, Kansas, Sandy Unruh and her husband Mark, of McPherson, Kansas and her brother, Leonard "Bud" Bonjour and his wife Margaret, of Onaga, Kansas; six grandchildren, Tanya Hansarik & husband Nick, Sarah Koehn, Brett Koehn (Beth), Keith Unruh (Jessica), Shelby Reese (Jacob), and Aaron Koehn; six great-grandchildren Kaylee and Keaton Hansarik, Maddison Klassen, Adrian Unruh, Rhett Unruh, Blakely Reese, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dale Bonjor; three sisters, Marge Graf, Betty Labbee, and Rose Davis; a son, Marty Dale Koehn; and a granddaughter, Heidi Sue Unruh. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas, with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating. Memorials are suggested to V.F.W. Post 2715 Auxiliary or Women and Children Combatting Cancer and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
