Nancy L. Jones, 74, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:38 p.m., Saturday, March 12th, 2016 peacefully with family at her side, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas. . Nancy Lu Jones, the youngest daughter of Ersel Ervin and Mary Genevieve (Smith) Mapes, was born November 23, 1941 at Joplin, Missouri. Nancy was one of five daughters born to this union, Maxine, Eva Jean, Nina Lee, Erselene, and Nancy. She attended the Joplin grade schools and graduated from Joplin High School. She then attended and graduated from Joplin Junior College. Following her education, Nancy worked for AAA as a travel agent in Joplin. On November 22, 1962, Nancy was united in marriage to William J. Jones at the Forest Park Baptist Church, Joplin, Missouri. Because William was in the Army, the young couple established their first home together in Fort Smith, Arkansas to be close to Fort Chaffee. Following William’s honorable discharge from the Army in 1965, they moved to McPherson, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of four children, two daughters and two sons, Elaine, Cindi, Aubrey, and Ashley. Nancy was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She was selected to appear in the 1969 edition of “outstanding young women of America”. She owned and operated McPherson Travel Agency and the Home Guide for several years. Nancy decided to go back to school and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from McPherson College in 1983. Nancy became a Realtor worked for Ellene McKean. Nancy later went to work as an Appraiser for the McPherson County Appraisers office and retired as Assistant County Appraiser. In her retirement, she was the organizer for Carrol Roberson Ministries Holy Land Tours in which she truly loved. Nancy was a member of the New Gottland Covenant Church, a member of Ladies Reading Circle, P.E.O. Chapter AY, Order of Eastern Star where she was past Worthy Matron, started and organized the McPherson Theater Guild, was a mother advisor for the Rainbow Guild, was chairperson for the remodeling of the McPherson Community Building, was a leader for the McPherson 4-H Club, Domestic Art Club member and organizer of Sweet Assurance. Nancy was a Christian, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many. Her wise counsel, gentle but firm guidance, and gracious smile will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Nancy was very proud of her children and always wanted the best for them. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always looking forward to their visits and times they would share together. Nancy loved getting involved in her community and was very passionate in her endeavors. One of her favorite loves was taking friends on the Holy Land Tours. She made many friends on these visits and loved to see how the tour would change those who visited there. Nancy L. Jones, 74, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away from this life peacefully and entered into eternal rest at 11:38 p.m., Saturday, March 12th, 2016 with family at her side, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Ersel Mapes; and sisters, Maxine Jeffers and Nina Lee Smith. Nancy is survived by her husband William Jones, of McPherson, Kansas; her children, Elaine Camile Ryder, of McPherson, Kansas, Cynthia Ellen 'Cindi' Jones, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Aubrey William Jones and his wife Jaimee, of Belton, Missouri, and Ashley Warren Jones and his wife Katie, of McPherson, Kansas; her sisters, Erselene Hamlin, of Joplin, Missouri and Eva Jean Mayfield, of Greenfield, Missouri. Nancy is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Samuel Curtis Sarratt, Victoria Ellen Rickerson, Austin William Bear Ryder, Kansa Marie Quebec Ryder, Kennedy Elsie Renee Jones, Adriann Kate Jones, Isaac Aubrey Jones, Breadan Ashley Jones, Grayson Alexander Jones; 3 great-grandchildren, Kimberly Ellen Rickerson, Adam Wayne Rickerson, Caleb William Rickerson. As per Nancy's request, graveside services were held at Koons Family Cemetery, rural McPherson, Kansas, at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13th, 2016 with Reverend Richard Skar officiating. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday April 9, 2016 at the New Gottland Covenant Church, rural McPherson, Kansas with Reverend Richard Skar officiating. Order of Eastern Star members will present member services. Memorial contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to Carroll Roberson Ministries for Holy Land Tours and they can be sent in care of the Gidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
