Sidney Ray Unruh

October 13, 1938 - May 28, 2018

Sidney Ray Unruh, 79, of Galva, Kansas, passed away at 7:50 p.m., Monday, May 28th, 2018 while in the company of family members at Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson. Sid was born in Halstead, Kansas on October 13, 1938, a son of Susie (Koehn) and Murphy J. Unruh. Sid attended and graduated from Liberty Country School, Rural Galva, Kansas. Though the years, Sid worked for Kit Manufacturing as a leadman and foreman, and later worked for McPherson County Public Works as a heavy equipment operator. Sid enjoyed his family, reading, traveling, and working in the yard. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren so much and his love and devotion was returned during his final months by their many visits and times they spent together. Sidney Ray Unruh was united in marriage to Nola Fern Decker on July 12, 1959 at Lone Tree Mennonite Church, Galva, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together rural Galva, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Joleen and Sheri. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over nearly fifty-nine years, Nola Unruh, of Galva, Kansas; his daughters, Joleen Ekum and husband Craig, of McPherson, Kansas and Sheri Bressie and husband Rick, of Galva, Kansas; his siblings, Gloria Koehn and husband Leeland, of Minerva, Ohio, Gladys Schmidt and husband Don, of Moundridge, Kansas, Rodney Unruh and wife Doris, of Grafton, North Dakota, Lewellyn Unruh and wife Glenda, of Galva, Kansas and Linford Unruh and wife Deanna, of Grafton, North Dakota; his 4 grandchildren, Kylie Koehn and husband Levi, Cody Ekum and wife Kimberly, Kaitlyn Bressie, and, Alyson Donelson and husband Lee; his 5 great-grandchildren, Parker Koehn, Ava Koehn, Oliver Koehn, Brinnon Ekum, and Brantley Ekum; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Sid was preceded in death by his parents, Susie and Murphy Unruh. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas. The funeral service will be held at Lone Tree Church of God In Christ, rural Galva, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 with Pastor Roger Unruh and Pastor Gary Nightingale officiating. Burial will be held in the Lone Tree Church Of God In Christ Cemetery rural Galva, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Relay for Life or Kindred Hospice and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
